THE BEGINNING

It all started in the end of 1983. Nalcolm and Clim were sitting in Clims apartment sharing a big bottle of vodka listening to AC/DC´s Highway to Hell.Suddenly Nalcolm had this brilliant idea of starting an AC/DC cover band. Clim agreed.

BENGUS JOINS

Nalcolm was at that time working as a postman in Sätra, the suburb of Stockholm from which all the AB/CD members came from.He knew that a guitarplayer named Bengt, who just loved AC/DC, lived in the area where he used to deliver mail. Bengt was already at that time called Bengus and was also very "famous" because of his imitations of Angus Young with his band The Weed.
Neither Nalcolm or Clim knew Bengus in person then, they hadn´t even spoke to him.But they knew what they were after, so Nalcolm wrote a letter to Bengus in English and made it look like some kind of manager wrote it and asked for his services. He glued two stamps from Helvetica (Sounds like "Hell" in Swedish) on the envelope, and the next day at work Nalcolm dropped the letter in Bengus´mailbox.
The same day Bengus called to ask what this was all about. Nalcolm explained and of course he wanted to join the band. The singer, Braijan and the drummer at that time Putte Finger (Put the Finger) joined after a couple of days.

LOOKALIKES

In one of the first rehearsals, Braijan suddenly jumped in with this cap on his head which his Grandma had sewed a wig into! The wig was a part of the cap..!With "that thing" on his head he looked like some kind of crazy and weird copy of Brian Johnson.We all laughed so much we could´t barely stand up !!Bengus later got his outfit. Of course his cap had the red plastic devil-horns and the letter "B"in the front instead of Angus´ "A".The Brilliant name "AB/CD" was Braijans idea.
They picked the best songs from the originals setlist and started to rehearse.

GIG TIME !

One of the first gigs (1984) was at a very popular rock club at that time called "Studion" (The Studio) at S:T Eriksplan, Stockholm, where all the Swedish hardrock celebrities used to go, such as the guys from EUROPE, Easy Action, Treat, 220 Volts, Trash and the girls from "Aphrodite" -later called DRAIN STH.The place was crowded and the gig was a huge success. The rumors begin to fly and after a few more gigs AB/CD had a very good reputation. Everybody in the swedish music business seemed to talk about AB/CD.

ROCK´N´ROLL & HUMOUR !!

"We were probably the only band in Sweden, and anywhere else I think, who was doing this "cover thing" to 100 %, concentrating on only one act and their songs. And....we even looked like the originals. The audience thought it was fantastic. It both looked and sounded very close to AC/DC. And one of the most important things in this context was probably that you were allowed to laugh at the whole thing.Hardrock business at that time was taken too seriously. I think everyone involved suffered from that, but didn´t know about it until they saw us....!!"We were sort of "A Big Relief" for Rock´n´Rollers.

Brian Johnson once said:
- Rock'n'Roll is supposed to be a laugh, and we´ve done a hell of a lot of it !
Bon Scott also shows his sense of humor in the "Let there be Rock" video interview, where he tells the story of when he first saw Angus on stage; "I laughed and I laughed - and I still laugh." he said.
AB/CD had just taken the whole thing a little bit further considering the humor.How could we be serious...? We didn't even want to..We just wanted to play and give ourselves and the audience a good time....and A GOOD LAUGH !We´re sort of The Disciples of AC/DC . - "A Good Time Rock'n'Roll Band !".
Nalcolm says:
"It´s important though, to make things clear here on the internet where AC/DC fans everyday see our webpage and are maybe wondering what the hell this is ?"Whatever you might think: - We have never tried to make AC/DC look silly or bad. If someone think so, they´re very wrong."The biggest love we have is for the Best Rock'n'Roll band of all time - AC/DC !

RECORD CONTRACT

Nalcolm was working as a producer at a studio in Stockholm called Soundtrade in 1986 where he met another guy named Christer who also were producing bands. He had heard about AB/CD and wanted to know more about the band, and Nalcolm told him about "the cover band thing".
- Don´t you write songs of your own too ?, he asked.- Well, I´ve recorded some stuff on my 4-channel recorder at home, Nalcolm replied.- Great, can I listen to it ?- Sure, but I didn´t bring the tape.- Just sing it, he said.

Nalcolm sat down, played "drums" on his knees and sang the the chorus line from "Victim Of Rock" - "Died Of an Electric Shock".
Christer just freaked out: - Great Stuff !! Bring the tape and we´ll make a presentation to Sanji Tandan !!Sanji, was at that time working at Alpha Records and is today one of the biggest guys at Warner Music International.The next day he listened to it and he decided that we´d do a mini-lp with six songs.
The mini-lp "Victim of Rock" was recorded in only a few days. It was released in early -87 and printed in only 2500 copies that were sold out in a very short time. Despite the big demand for the album, Alpha Records didn´t bother to print any more copies of it. Why we don´t know. But shortly thereafter the record company was no more.....

Milo Manara es el pseudónimo del historietista italiano Maurillo Manara, nacido en la localidad italiana de Luson (provincia de Bolzano) el 12 de septiembre de 1945. ,,
Durante sus estudios de arquitectura en la Universidad de Venecia, en 1968 lanza su primer cómic, Genius, una combinación de género negro y erotismo publicada en formato de bolsillo. En 1972 dibuja la serie Jolanda de Almaviva, con guión de Francesco Rubino, y paralelamente realiza carteles y otros trabajos gráficos para agrupaciones políticas. Fruto de su concienciación social en esa época son sus diversos cómics con fuerte mensaje político, como Alessio il Borghese, Telerompo y Strategia della Tensione (para el partido socialista italiano), todos con guión de Sileverio Pisù. Con el mismo guionista realiza en 1976 El Rey Mono, adaptación de una leyenda folclórica china, aparecida en la revista Alter. Para el semanario juvenil Corriere dei Ragazzi ilustra La parola alla giuria (guión de Mino Milani) y para el editor francés Larousse elabora varios episodios de sus colecciones L´histoire en bandes dessinées y La découverte du monde. Participa en la colección Un hombre, una aventura con el álbum El monje del Tíbet (guión de Alfredo Castelli).

En 1979 aparece en la revista À Suivre su primera obra como único autor, H.P., primera entrega de Las aventuras de Giuseppe Bergman, en la que rinde homenaje a Hugo Pratt. Con este último como guionista tendría ocasión de colaborar en 1983 con "Verano Indio" y nuevamente tiempo después con El gaucho. Además de hacer vivir a Giuseppe Bergman nuevas hazañas en los álbumes Tal vez soñar, Aventuras africanas y Camino oculto, 1983 presencia asimismo el debut de su obra más célebre, Clic, que lo encumbrará como uno de los grandes autores de cómic erótico y conocerá hasta cuatro partes, además de ser llevado al teatro y al cine de imagen real. Dentro del mismo género, Manara lanza sucesivamente El perfume del invisible —del que existe una secuela, Desnuda por la ciudad, y una adaptación animada—, Cámara indiscreta, Gulliveriana, Kamasutra, La metamorfosis de Lucio, El arte del azote, Cita fatal y WWW. En una línea más satírica, Revolución (2000) es una crítica a los poderes de las cadenas televisivas. Recientemente ha vuelto al erotismo, combinándolo con la ciencia ficción, en Piranesi: el planeta prisión.

Manara ha colaborado también con Federico Fellini, para el que realizó carteles de algunas de sus películas y la versión en historieta de dos guiones suyos que no llegó a llevar al cine, Viaje a Tulum y El viaje de G. Mastorna. Para el también cineasta Pedro Almodóvar ilustra su novela Fuego en las entrañas. En tiempos recientes se ha consagrado preferentemente a la ilustración y la publicidad, además de realizar cómics para soporte digital y de diseñar los personajes para el largometraje de animación francés La légende de Parva

Mushroom - 'Early One Morning.....' 1973


Here's a long forgotten sole album on CD reissue from a little known Irish art rock / progressive psych band. I actually came across this oddity in a Hastings music store for like $5, guess they didn't realize exactly what this title was. Tracks off this import that did something for me were the title cut "Early One Morning", "Unborn Child", the Celtic folkish "Tenpenny Piece" and "King Of Alba". Should maybe appeal to fans of Third Ear Band, Fairport Convention and the Strawbs. Line-up: Alan Brown-guitar, bass & vocals, Pat Collins-mandolin, violin, sound effects & vocals, Michael Power-organ & moog, Aengus McNally-guitar, tin whistle and vocals and Colm Lynch-percussion & wood chimes. Nice!

Nascido no longínquo ano de 1933, John Mayall assim como Alexis Korner, podem ser considerados os avôs do blues-rock inglês. Se Luciano Huck tem uma fazenda de bundas escondida em algum lugar do país, Mayall com certeza tem uma de guitarristas perto de Londres. É só sacar o time que já passou por seu antológico grupo (Bluesbreakers) para ver se tenho ou não razão: Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Taylor, Coco Montoya e muitos outros colocaram seus instrumentos a serviço deste grande talento, que soube como poucos, unir as raízes do blues ao tempero do Jazz, em meio a muito rock'n'roll (ler na íntegra no Whiplash, clique).

Primus - Frizzle Fry ( 1990 )

Primus' second release (but first studio album), 1990's FRIZZLE FRY, remains one of this psycho-noise-funk-freakout band's finest. Whereas most other funk-like hard rock bands at the time came off half-baked and silly, Primus were one of the genre's masters (bassist Les Claypool had done hard time in funk/jazz cover bands prior to Primus). Several songs on FRIZZLE FRY had already been issued on the in-concert SUCK ON THIS, but dazzling renditions of "John the Fisherman," "Ground Hog's Day," "Pudding Time," and "Harold of the Rocks" outdo the originals. Add to it such newer tracks as "To Defy the Laws of Tradition," "Too Many Puppies," and "Mr. Knowitall," and you have the Primus second classic in a row.

\foo fighters\(1997) The Colour and the Shape


Foo Fighters es el grupo creado en 1995 por Dave Grohl, el que fuera batería de Nirvana. Su primer disco y el propio grupo toman su nombre de la forma en que los pilotos americanos llamaban a los OVNIs en la Guerra Mundial II. En la grabación de aquél primer trabajo, Grohl tocó todos los instrumentos, salvo por una pequeña aportación de guitarra en uno de los temas; más tarde se unirían otros cuatro componentes (sobretodo con motivo de la primera gira) dando lugar al grupo propiamente dicho.
Básicamente, Foo Fighters es rock alternativo, que bebe tanto del punk-rock, hardcore y emocore, como del rock de los 70 (sobretodo Led Zeppelin) o incluso los 60 (evidente inclinación hacia los Beatles).
Pese a que Dave era "baquetas" en Nirvana, en Foo Fighters toma la posición de vocalista y guitarra, sobretodo una vez llegados "los refuerzos". Sin embargo, tras completar un cuarteto inicialmente con Pat Smear (que había tocado también con Nirvana), Nate Mendel (bajo) y William Goldsmith (batería), Grohl se vería forzado a volver a sentarse a la batería para terminar de grabar este "The Colour And The Shape", debido a la repentina marcha de Goldsmith (que no compartía la dirección musical que se estaba dando al mismo). Pronto llegaría Taylor Hawkins (de la banda de Alanis Morisette) para cubrir la vacante en la percusión y así quedaría cerrado el grupo de nuevo, aunque Pat Smear también acabaría abandonando la formación un tiempo después (durante 1997). Su puesto fue ocupado por Franz Stahl (un viejo conocido de Grohl, pues habían sido compañeros en el grupo Scream, años atrás) y, ahora sí, quedaba de esta forma cerrada, tras estos bailes, la formación de la era "The Colour And The Shape".

Rush - Test For Echo 1996



Test For Echo fue su tercer y último disco en estudio de la década de los 90’s, un material que como siempre se ganó la admiración de los fans, aunque no así la de los puristas del progresivo atrapados en los 70’s y 80’s que detestaron el sonido pesado y directo de esta producción en la que muchas de sus canciones rayaban en el Heavy Metal. Sin embargo puedo decir que Rush es un grupo que siempre tuvo esa inclinación hacia el Metal, pero que a pesar ello el grupo nunca se traicionó a sí mismo y siguió siendo progresivo; es un disco de una excelente calidad y ni por broma a regular llega, es el mismo Rush de siempre pero más pesado.

Atlantis Philharmonic (1974)

This USA duo formed in Cleveland during the early/mid 70’s by Royce Gibson on drums and the multi instrumentalist Joe DiFazio on everything else. Their style is mostly the blending of Symphonic influences like CAMEL, ELP, etc with some Fusion and a bit of the sound of the MOODY BLUES and Hard Rock by moments. Their first and only LP is the 1974 self titled album released by the label “Deutsche Harmonia Mundi”. the eclectic sound of this album has very characteristic features like the excellent vocals close to a blend of Psyche and Pop plus a hard edged guitar that reminds of Early ELP or THE NICE with a touch of CAMEL. But this isn’t all, in tracks as ”Friends” we can finds some heavy rock influence similar to URIAH HEEP or DEEP PURPLE, others closer to ATOMIC ROOSTER like “Atlantis", plus atmospheric touches like in the incredible “Woodsman” that also blends some Jazzy leanings, strange but this last track reminds me a bit of the KING CRIMSON's masterpiece In the Court of the Crimson King”

“Does tango have any true relevance today? The answer must be assuredly, vehemently in the affirmative. At its creative and emotional best, tango is more than its own clichés perpetuated in pap arrangements. To a considerable degree, it is Astor Piazolla who is responsible for ensuring tango’s continued growth.
More than a dance revisiting its sensuous past, tango is the pulse of a society. Like Algerian rai, Portuguese fado, Greek rembetika, and American blues, it taps into the wellspring of a sub-culture. Invoking those familiar and perhaps not-so-familiar names is more than specious intellectualism or a case of clutching at the handy straws of comparison, for tango too was born to a demimonde culture. It too was the music of the urban disadvantaged. It too was the music of rebellion for a sub-class frowned upon, in its case, by Argentinian high society – unless its socialites decided to go slumming so divinely.
Tango did not lose its voice when its great star Carlos Gardel died in 1935, even if they say a nation went into mourning. Tango was a living tradition and a music of survival; nonetheless it still came perilously close to decline. Tango survived, found new voices and Piazolla was one of those new voices. At the time of Gardel’s death Piazolla was a teenager living in New York, yet he had already successfully auditioned for the maestro and had already been recognized as being someone to watch.
Piazolla brought to tango influences as diverse as jazz, contemporary classicism and Italian opera, out of which he distilled Nuevo tango (‘New Tango’). And while the tango of the cryonic chamber slept on, his music sang a more urgent, radical song. His song did not always please. It challenged. It aroused passions. It communicated duende, that spirit of inspiration of which Federico Garcia Lorca spoke so persuasively, and like duende, it communicated danger, in Piazzolla’s case, not just of the figurative sort. His life was threatened, his music decried by people whose complacency was unsettled by such rampant innovation and studied disregard for the conventional. But in time Piazolla was recognized as one of tango’s inspirational voices, as inspirational a figure in music as his compatriot Jorge Luis Borges was in literature. That is a measure of Astor Piazzolla’s greatness.
Five Tango Sensations is the composer’s second piece for the Kronos Quartet. His first, Four, For Tango, came about after seeing the group play in New York City; eventually they would interpret it on their 1988 Nonesuch album Winter Was Hard.
The bandoneon that Piazzolla plays, he has remarked, was born in a church in Germany and moved on to the Prostibulos – the brothels of Argentina. Tango began in the whorehouses of Argentina and moved on to the world’s concert halls. That inversion packs an irony as cutting as razorwire.”

Piratas – Sua História Através dos Tempos II

A INCRÍVEL HISTÓRIA DE ANNE BONNY & MARY READ

“Anne Bonny e Mary Read (1684-1721) foram as duas piratas femininas mais famosas do Caribe. Ela navegou na tripulação de Jack Morim Rackham. Anne era a amante de Morim mas sobre ela não se poderia dizer que era menos destemida do que qualquer outro pirata. Nasceu no município de Cortiça, filha de um advogado e da sua empregada. O advogado deixou a Irlanda em desgraça mas criou fortuna na Carolina do Norte onde comprou uma grande plantação.
Um pirata com o nome de James Bonny casou-se com Anne numa tentativa de roubar a plantação, mas o pai de Anne deserdou-a. James Bonny levou então Anne para as Bahamas, onde ele se tornou informante do governador Woodes Rogers. Anne repugnava o seu marido covarde e depressa se envolveu com Jack Morim, um pirata de algum renome. O Governador Rogers tinha oferecido uma amnistia recentemente a todos os piratas.
A admiração entre a Anne e Morim era mútua. Morim era um homem bonito que gostava de gastar bem o espólio de guerra. Anne era uma moça bem dotada com um espírito aventureiro e temperamento que se parecia com o de qualquer homem, isto de acordo com as convenções da altura.
Jack Morim ofereceu um valor para comprar Anne ao seu marido James Bonny, mas ele levou o assunto ao Governador Rogers que determinou que Anne seria açoitada e teria que voltar ao marido dela. Uma noite, Jack Morim e Anne passaram despercebidos no porto, roubaram uma embarcação e começaram uma vida de pirataria juntos.
Anne lutou vestindo-se como homem. Era uma perita com pistola e espada e era considerada tão perigosa quanto qualquer pirata masculino. Ela era destemida na batalha e lutava como ninguém.


Em Outubro de 1720, em retribuição ao seu informante, o governador da Jamaica, ouvindo falar na presença de Jack Morim enviou uma embarcação armada para intervir e capturar o Capitão Jack Morim e sua tripulação. O navio “Revange” do capitão Jack Morim, foi capturado de surpresa e para o desânimo de Anne, os piratas lutaram como covardes e estavam perdendo a batalha facilmente.Anne Bonny e Mary Read, também foram capturadas mas confessaram o "sexo" se declararam culpadas e seriam enforcadas depois que elas dessem à luz. (Ambas as mulheres estavam na ocasião grávidas). Mary Read escapou do carrasco morrendo de febre enquanto estava na prisão. Anne porém, recebeu vários despachos de execução antes de desaparecer misteriosamente. Muitos acreditam que Mary Read teria recebido um perdão eventualmente se ela não tivesse morrido de doença.” (Wikipedia)

“Anne Bonny is remembered today as one of the two most well-known women pirates active during the pirates' heyday during the early 18th century. As far as pirates go, she was not that important in plundering and she was not a captain of a vessel like nearly all of the remembered pirates today. She was however, able to hide her true identity by disguising herself as a man since the clothes of the day was often loose and baggy. She also was a good fighter and carried her own weight in sailing and in combat just as well as any of the male crewmen, and in some cases, much better!
Anne Bonny was born near Cork, Ireland to a well respected lawyer but her mother was the family house maid. The lawyer's wife found out of his affair with the maid and in the scandal that followed he lost his law practice. He packed up his belongings and took his new lover and their daughter to start a new life in Carolina where she would now be his true wife.
During this time Anne fell in love with a penniless seaman named James Bonny. She knew her father would not agree to their marriage so they secretly wed hoping her father would have to accept it once it was done. But instead, he was outraged and kicked her out from the household and the newlyweds soon seperated.

While at a tavern in the Bahamas in May 1719, she met the pirate Calico Jack and the two soon fell in love. She became pregnant and Calico Jack took her to be cared for by some of his friends in Cuba and after this he convinced her to join his pirate crew disguised as man.
While pirating with her new lover, Bonny became attracted to a new crewman that came aboard from a plundered vessel. Bonny decided to tell the crewman of her true identity and much to her suprise the other crewman revealed she was also a woman, named Mary Read. They decided to tell Calico Jack about Read's secret and apparently he did not mind the second woman crewman. Both Bonny and Read became good friends and when Calico Jack's pirate ship was boarded in October 1720, only the two women tried to fight off the invaders and rally their fellow pirates, but the male crewmen easily surrendered. Their fight was in vain as they were too far outnumbered and were taken prisoner.
The two women had a seperate trial from the men twelve days later on November 28. The men's trial ended with a convition and sentence of death to 12 men including Calico Jack. He was able to see her one last before his execution and she stated to him "that she was sorry to see him there, but if he had fought like a man, he need not have been hanged like a dog." The men were hung the two following days, and soon after the two women would begin their trial. The verdict was the same for them - they would be hanged until dead. The two women then revealed that they were both pregnant and a following examination proved they were so they were both were spared the hangman's noose. What happened to Anne Bonny and her child is not known.Along with Mary Read, Anne Bonny is one of the rare instances in history where a woman's pirate's life is known. The fact that they both were able to hide their sexuality to the crew is amazing; and in the end, the women's brave battle against the boarders while the rest of the crew cowered deserves respect in itself.”
